We are dancing and reading!

Happy snowy February!  We have reached the 1/2 way mark for Fit and Lit.  We are just shy of our 1/2-way goal mark.  We have read the number of minutes to travel around the earth 20 times.  We have more work to do together to reach our goal of 50 times around the earth or 1,245,100 minutes (where 1 minute = 1 mile).

We had a wonderful assembly.  Ms Henrietta Chicken came by to tell us about how important it is for us to Henrietta Chickenread.  The students, under the instruction of Mrs. Gillis and Ms Riordan, led us in a ‘flash dance’ to Gotta Keep Reading.  The song was “I’ve Got a Feeling” by the Black Eye Peas;   the group gave permission to a Reading Specialist, in a Middle School, to change the lyrics of their song.  You can view it on YouTube.  Our students brought a book with them to the assembly to aid them in doing the flash dance.  The ‘wave’ was wonderful, considering we hadn’t practiced as a whole school, just individual classrooms.

After lunch, one day, Mrs. N. Powers’ and Mrs. Grady’s classrooms, challenged the other students to do the Gotta Keep Reading flash dance.  Then Mrs. Wood’s class did a flash dance to a different song on another day. It was wonderful to see all the excitement this generated.

Fit & Lit Earth

We have an inflatable globe in the lobby, showing red figures running with books around the equator with a yellow banner displaying the number of times we have exercised around the earth.  Please check it out when you visit the school.

We hope you are joining us in our efforts to exercise our whole bodies.

Happy Reading and Exercising!

Mrs. Chase
